Just a short walk away lies the legendary Piazza del Campo, a unique shell-shaped square dominated by the Torre del Mangia, one of the tallest medieval towers in Italy. Piazza del Campo is world-famous for the Palio di Siena, a thrilling horse race that has taken place twice every year since medieval times.
San Gimignano – The Town of Towers
Around lunchtime, we will depart Siena and continue to San Gimignano, often called the most beautiful medieval village in Tuscany. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is instantly recognizable by its 13 surviving medieval towers, rising dramatically above the village skyline.
Enjoy free time to:
Shop for local crafts, leather goods, hand-painted ceramics, wine, and olive oil
Visit the Collegiata Church, entirely decorated with frescoes
Climb the Torre Grossa, the tallest tower in town
